Bayer started to support sports in the local communities in the early 20th century to help employees make constructive use of their leisure time. The company now has 27 sports clubs with about 50,000 members in Leverkusen, Dormagen, Uerdingen and Wuppertal. Bayer has been sponsoring the arts for more than 90 years. Every year the Cultural Affairs Department organizes an attractive program of concerts, drama and dance with world-class performers, plus international art exhibitions.
