Helpful hints on your application
1. Full application documents
To apply for a position at Bayer, you need to submit a covering letter, a resume (max. three
pages), and references covering your period of study/relevant work experience during your career to
date.
Please note that we can only accept online applications. This enables us to process
applications quickly and efficiently and protects the environment by reducing paper
consumption.
The attachments to your application must not exceed 5 MB. The maximum size of individual
attachments is 3 MB. Documents may be submitted in the following formats: doc, xls, ppt, zip, pdf,
jpg, swf, gif, txt.
We recommend submitting attachments as a pdf file as this makes optimum use of storage
capacity. Many free programs for converting files to pdf format and combining pdf documents in a
single file are available on the Internet.
If the 3 MB limit is too low, you can copy and paste your covering letter directly into the
input template.
If you have all the data and documents you need to hand, the average amount of time required
to submit an application via our careers page is about one hour.
2. Covering letter and resume
It is common knowledge that recruiters tend to read the covering letter first. Make sure your
letter is as individual as possible. Draw attention to specific features of the vacancy, explain
why you decided to apply to Bayer and highly the specific qualities you could utilize at our
company.
It may be helpful to ask yourself the following questions:
- What position am I applying for and what makes it so attractive to me?
- What are my expectations of the position?
- What are my main strengths and abilities?
Please state the site in Germany you are applying for and which fields you are interested in.
Your resume gives us an insight into your educational background and career to date. To make
it clearer, you are welcome to start with your most recent employment experience and work
backwards. Any gaps in your career should be explained briefly.
Please make sure that your application documents meet the following formal requirements:
- Please check for spelling mistakes and formatting errors
- Please ensure your texts are clearly structured
- Please ensure that all documents are legible
- Please only attach files that can be opened on any standard computer.
3. Interview or Assessment Center
If you are offered an interview or telephone interview or invited to attend an Assessment Center,
you have cleared the first hurdle. This means that we are interested in your application and would
like to get to know you and gain an impression of your skills and abilities.
Depending on your field, this may comprise an individual interview or an Assessment Center.
We will present the company to you, explain what we do and give you detailed information on
the position you have applied for. We will also discuss your professional development perspectives.
Naturally, we will be happy to answer your questions as well.
We are most interested in finding out about your personality. What drives you forward in
life? What made you choose your course of study or prompted your career and training decisions?
What do you enjoy doing? What are your values and aspirations? These are open questions to which
you can no doubt give interesting answers.
Interviews may last between one hour and one day depending on your field. The timescale
depends, for example, on whether the interview includes a presentation or tour of your potential
workplace. Assessment Centers normally last a whole day.
To prepare for your interview or Assessment Center we suggest you visit Bayer’s website to
find out more about the company and ask yourself the following questions:
- What tasks and roles have I been assigned so far?
- What did I find particularly interesting in my career so far or during my studies?
- What do I expect of the position I have applied for?
- What are my strengths and weaknesses?
- What are my expectations, requirements or hopes if I get a job at Bayer?
If you are invited to attend an Assessment Center, you will be sent an agenda, information on
possible topics and a list of contacts. This will enable you to prepare thoroughly in advance. A
final tip: Be natural and let us see the real you!
We wish you every success with your application.
