Bayer Science & Education Foundation
“The future of our society depends on our best brains,” states Dr. Wolfgang Plischke, member of
Bayer AG's Board of Management responsible for research. “They must help solve and overcome the
burning social challenges of our time. That is why, with the Bayer Fellowship Program, we are
sponsoring postgraduate and complementary courses both in Germany and abroad, along with
internships, dissertations and doctoral projects.”
Member of the Board of Trustees Dr. Carl-Heinz Duisberg - grandson of Prof. Carl Duisberg,
who set up Bayer’s first foundation program in 1923 – adds: “We are delighted to be able to support
these young people and their remarkable projects and thereby to open up new possibilities for them
- fully in keeping with the philosophy of the founder.”
The Bayer Fellowship Program now incorporates the Bayer, Kurt-Hansen and Carl Duisberg
scholarships. Benefiting from this financial support are students currently engaged in their main
study period and graduates who completed their studies no more than two years ago. Branches of
study that have been supported this year include the biosciences, biotechnology, chemistry, physics
and medicine.
The new Bayer Fellows will conduct their sponsored projects in the coming months in eleven
different countries, including Australia, China, Nepal, South Africa, Kenya, the United States and
various European countries. One scholarship winner comes from Russia and will conduct research in
Germany.
The next application round will begin in July 2008. You can find further information
