Some people decide very early on where their career interests lie. Tobias Quadt, who has a degree in chemistry and business studies, is a good example: he knew what he wanted to do and systematically pursued his goals. With his first experience in his chosen career under his belt, he is sure he has made the right choice: “So far I have made all the right decisions,” he says.
Tobias Quadt took the first steps towards gaining the skills he needed for his chosen career as
a high school student: “I spent a year at school in England and chose English and chemistry as my
main subjects. I already knew I wanted to go into the business side of the chemical industry and I
was interested in working in an international environment," he recalls.
With such a clear idea of his future career path, his choice of degree course was logical:
chemistry and business studies. What’s more, he decided to study entirely in England “to improve my
grasp of the language and increase my chances of an international career.”
Having obtained a good degree, he took his first steps in the chemical industry through an
integrated “Marketing and Sales” internship at a well-known chemical company.
His aim was to confirm that he had chosen the right career before setting out to find a
suitable job. “Next, I took a more systematic look at the companies in the chemical industry and
developed a clear preference for Bayer. Naturally, the fact that Bayer was advertising for business
consultants on
http://www.mybayerjob.de helped because
that appealed to me at once."
He was given responsible tasks from day one, enabling him to gain valuable on-the-job
experience and benefit from the advice of his colleagues. “My tasks became broader and more
challenging with every new project. I have been able to extend my knowledge, skills and
responsibilities – including being put in charge of a team of younger colleagues working on a
sub-project and later managing an entire project.” “I learn something new every day, and there are
also regular opportunities to attend training and development courses.”
Tobias Quadt finds it easy to describe what he likes best about his job: “I love the logical,
analytical approach to projects. Working closely with international managers and playing a role in
ground-breaking decisions are equally interesting and I really enjoy the implementation stage and
seeing the first results.”
Having worked on wide-ranging projects for all three Bayer subgroups in Germany and abroad,
Tobias Quadt is already well-placed to review his career choice: "I find it particularly gratifying
that our work is valued. What we do is important for the entire Bayer Group, not just for
individual entities.” That is the real Bayer spirit.
Naturally, career prospects are as important to this ambitious young man as the excellent
working conditions he enjoys at Bayer Business Consulting: “If you choose to work for Business
Consulting you really have fantastic opportunities at Bayer. The wide-ranging skills I’m acquiring
in this job and the direct contact with management in the course of projects offer excellent
prospects for a managerial career at Bayer if I want to move on after four or five years in
consulting.”
Even so, Tobias Quadt makes it quite clear that his life does not just consist of work.
Advantages of working at Bayer's Leverkusen site include being close to Cologne and Düsseldorf,
both of which offer rich cultural opportunities, yet within easy reach of the countryside. “
Theater, museums and concerts, sports and recreation - here I’ve got everything I need. I can fully
recommend working for Bayer and especially for Bayer Business Consulting. I couldn’t have made a
better decision.”
